What is the Theme for Earth Day 2023?

During the 1970’s, Earth Day was a day of celebration and action. It marked the beginning of a modern day environmental movement. Its success has led to the creation of more environmental laws in the United States.

The first Earth Day, held on April 22, 1970, gathered 20 million people who took part in the demonstration. The event also raised awareness about the dangers of air pollution and toxic drinking water.

The event also led to the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency. This agency was responsible for creating environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.

In addition to the Clean Air Act, the Endangered Species Act was passed in 1970. These are just two of the many environmental laws that have been passed since that time. The IPCC report on climate change found that “rapid, deep and immediate” cuts in carbon dioxide emissions are needed if we want to maintain a safe climate.

The first Earth Day grew to become a global event. In 2010, two hundred and fifty thousand people participated in a climate change rally in Washington D.C. The event also spawned the Paris Agreement, which committed to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.

For many, the first Earth Day was the biggest single-day protest in human history. Thousands of people participated in peaceful demonstrations to encourage environmental reform.

The first Earth Day also marked the start of a new, albeit short-lived, global movement. The “Plant Trees Not Bombs” campaign was a global initiative that encouraged people to plant trees. For every dollar donated, a tree would be planted.
